Featured Project: De Viersprong in Gavere

A beautiful residential development is planned in the Onderstraat, within the village center of Gavere. A dozen apartments, just a stone's throw from the Market Square, will be a valuable addition to the high-quality village center. The area is characterized by a wide diversity in architectural styles and building scales. The De Viersprong project aims to connect with the diversity of its surroundings in both scale and architectural expression.

The Onderstraat features a significant difference in elevation along its length, which is also clearly present on the De Viersprong site. A natural segmentation of the building volume is created by embracing this elevation difference on the site and using it as an expression in both the facade and the cornice. The four buildings, each with three apartments, are thus clearly discernible and integrate well with the streetscape in terms of scale.

The building consists of 2 cores, each serving 6 apartments. Each apartment features a spacious outdoor area, either on the Onderstraat side or the Sint Rochuswegel side. This ensures that both the front and rear facades are lively. The apartments on level +2 are high-quality duplex apartments with a beautiful double-height void that brings light and air deep into the living space.

For the facade, brick architecture with a clear and clean layout was chosen. Although the four buildings use the same brick, the way the brick is processed results in four very diverse architectural styles. For example, one building will be traditionally bricked, and another will be slurry-coated. The other two buildings will feature expressive joint work and a mortar treatment in the form of 'chipping'. In this way, the buildings will clearly belong to the same family, yet they will continue to connect with the diverse streetscape of Gavere.
